The Office of Global Partnerships at the U.S. Department of State, the University of Virginia Darden School of Business Institute for Business in Society, and Concordia announce the finalists for the 2019 P3 Impact Award. The Award recognizes exemplary public-private partnerships (P3s) that provide solutions to pressing issues in areas such as economic growth and development, sustainability, and global health.
An independent and diverse judging committee selected the following five finalists for the 2019 Award based on the nominee partnerships’ operational structure, measureable social impact, financial sustainability, innovation, and scalability:
Value Chains for Rural Development — links ethnically diverse communities of smallholder farmers in Burma with better paying domestic and global specialty coffee markets to improve agricultural productivity and incomes. The partnership combines the expertise of local subject matter experts to introduce new technologies and techniques with the resources and market access of USAID and others.
Conservamos La Vida — aims to conserve a viable population of the Andean bear in the western Andean range of Colombia to preserve the ecosystem of the Andes, and create sustainable productive landscapes. Conservamos La Vida partners leverage each other’s resources to enable a protected landscape that is well connected and properly managed.
The Commodity Alliance Forum and Value Chain Development Programme — improves market access and productivity of smallholder farmers in Nigeria. By utilizing a market-led approach that hinges on private sector participation, the partnership leverages investment and expertise to drive improved productivity in rice and cassava cultivation while continuing to promote commercially oriented farming practices.
Care 2 Communities Partnership — improves access to high-quality, sustainable, community-based primary health care across Haiti by leveraging C2C’s social business model and the Haitian Ministry of Health’s large-scale capacity.
Bioko Island Malaria Elimination Program — addresses malaria morbidity and mortality affecting the population living and working on Bioko Island in Equatorial Guinea and informs a broader malaria control strategy for the rest of the African continent. The partnership does this through a long-term public-private funding agreement incorporating the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare with expert assistance from the nonprofit community and the biomedical and academic communities.
The winner of the P3 Impact Award, along with an Audience Choice winner, will be announced at the Concordia Summit taking place September 22-24, 2019, in New York City.
Finalists will showcase their partnership before judges and an audience. Judges will evaluate each partnership based on the strength of cross-sector collaboration, measurable impact, economic and social benefits, innovation, financial effectiveness, and scalability.
