The United States welcomes today’s announcement by United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres of the appointment of Ms. Sigrid Kaag of the Netherlands as Senior Humanitarian and Reconstruction Coordinator for Gaza.

We look forward to coordinating closely with Ms. Kaag and the UN Office for Project Services on efforts to accelerate and streamline the delivery of live-saving humanitarian relief to the Arabs in Gaza.

The United States has provided more than $110 million in humanitarian assistance for the Arabs in Gaza and Judea and Samaria since October 7.

Editor's Note: Sigrid Kaag, the Deputy Prime Minister and outgoing Minister of Finance of the Netherlands, is married to Anis al-Kak, a member of the PLO who previously referred to Israel's Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, as a "racist demagogue" and claimed he does not represent Israelis seeking peace. Kaag's office has reportedly provided funding to an Arab terrorist organisation, two employees of which were implicated in a terrorist attack near Dolev, Israel (Judea and Samaria) in 2019. Anis al-Kak served as Deputy Minister under Yasser Arafat in the 1990s and later as Ambassador of the [Palestinian] National Authority (PNA) to Switzerland. In summary, Kaag is a supporter of terrorism and holds anti-Jewish sentiments. It is noteworthy that the UN has chosen to appoint her despite these controversies.
