As the sun sets on Sunday, 25 May 2025, Jews around the world will mark יום ירושלים (Yom Yerushalayim), Jerusalem Day—a sacred commemoration of the reunification of our eternal capital following the miraculous victory of the Six Day War in 1967. On this day, we remember how the צה״ל (Tzahal – Israel Defense Forces) shattered the siege around Jerusalem, drove back the Arab aggressors, and restored Jewish sovereignty over the Old City and the הר הבית (Har HaBayit – Temple Mount) for the first time in nearly two millennia.
But Jerusalem Day must never be reduced to a nostalgic memory or limited to ceremonial flag parades. It is a call to conscience—a declaration of truth in a world addicted to lies and distortion. It is a national reminder that our connection to Jerusalem, to יהודה ושומרון (Yehudah VeShomron – Judea and Samaria), and to every corner of Eretz Yisrael is not recent, conditional, or negotiable. It is eternal, inherent, and irrevocable.
From the moment the invading Arab armies attacked the newly born State of Israel in 1948, they did so with genocidal intent. East Jerusalem, along with Judea and Samaria, was violently occupied—not liberated—by the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. Synagogues were desecrated, Jews were expelled, and our access to the כותל המערבי (Kotel HaMa'aravi – Western Wall) was severed. These were acts of war and religious persecution, not diplomacy.
Yet in 1967, the tide turned. After decades of exile and after nineteen years of illegal occupation by Jordan, we returned—not as conquerors, but as sons and daughters coming home. Our soldiers did not just secure a strategic location; they ascended the steps of our destiny.
In my recent article, “Time to Reclaim What Is Ours — No More Compromise with Terror,” I argued unequivocally that we must take the next step toward the full restoration of sovereignty: Israel must retake Gaza, which was surrendered in vain for a peace that never came, and must apply full Israeli civilian law throughout Judea and Samaria. These lands are not disputed—they are desecrated by delay, by hesitation, and by the fiction of foreign entitlement.
Let us be clear: no Arab state ever existed on this land. No ancient people called “Palestinians” ever built a civilisation here. What they built—what they were allowed to build—was a culture of terror, martyrdom, and denial. Denial of Jewish history, denial of Jewish rights, and denial of Jewish survival.
And what has compromise brought us? Rockets from Gaza. Murder in our streets. An unrelenting barrage of lies in the international media and halls of power. There is no appeasing those who do not acknowledge your right to exist.
Yom Yerushalayim is not only about a city. It is about clarity. It is about courage. It is about reclaiming our identity without shame, without apology, and without waiting for the world’s permission. The lesson of 1967 was not merely military. It was spiritual. It was the moment when history vindicated faith.
So let us honour the memory of those who fought and fell with one hand on the stones of Jerusalem and the other grasping the flag of Israel. Let us honour them not only with words but with action.
We will not retreat.
We will not negotiate our existence.
We will not surrender G-D’s promise to appease those who seek our destruction.
On this Yom Yerushalayim, let us proclaim once more:
Jerusalem is ours.
Judea and Samaria are ours.
Gaza is ours.
Eretz Yisrael belongs to Am Yisrael, and we will not be moved.
We will not wait for the world’s permission to defend what is eternally ours.
