U.S. Sanctions Individuals Contributing to the Recent Escalation of Conflict in the DRC

Today, the United States is imposing sanctions on six individuals contributing to the most recent escalation of conflict in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). Each of these individuals is contributing to instability in the eastern DRC and, in many cases, perpetrating human rights abuses, including sexual violence and violence against children.

The United States stands on the side of civilians and survivors against those who perpetrate violence against the people of DRC.

Today’s actions reflect the United States’ commitment to advancing efforts toward a resolution of the crisis and addressing human rights abuses and dire humanitarian situations.

These sanctions are also consistent with the Presidential Memorandum signed by President Biden in November 2022 to promote accountability for sexual violence in conflict.

The Department of the Treasury is designating these individuals pursuant to Executive Order 13413, as amended by Executive Order 13671. For more information about these designations, see the Department of the Treasury’s press release.
