There is no such thing as chance. From the moment we open our eyes in the morning until we lay them down to rest at night, every detail that unfolds is directed by the will of G-D. Even the smallest irritation — a stubbed toe, a delayed train, an unexpected interruption — is not random. It is purposeful, and it could not have happened without His intent.


The prophet teaches us: “הֲלֹא מֵאֵת ה תצא הרעות והטוב” (Eikha 3:38) — Do not both good and evil come forth from the mouth of the L-RD? In other words, nothing emerges into reality unless it is decreed from Above. To imagine otherwise is to divide His sovereignty and to create, G-D forbid, a world of competing powers.



Some are quick to say, “G-D saved President Trump from assassination.” Twice he has survived. And indeed, this is true. But to acknowledge G-D’s hand in the salvation without also recognising that G-D allowed the shooter to position himself is to fracture the truth of His dominion. The same G-D who shields is the One who permits events to unfold.


The Holy Zohar reminds us that Divine energy flows through every aspect of creation, both concealed and revealed, “for there is no place empty of Him.” Even the darkness is not outside His presence. And the Tanya goes further: when a person raises his hand to strike another, the power of that hand is not his own but the Divine life-force sustaining him in that moment. Without it, he could not so much as move a finger.


It is painful to say, but it must be said: when Charlie Kirk was murdered, this too was not outside G-D’s control. The murderer chose his path and bears full responsibility for his deed. But the very breath in his lungs and the strength in his hand came only from G-D. To say otherwise would deny His absolute mastery over life and death.



This does not mean we understand why. The ways of Heaven are concealed. Our task is not to unravel the hidden reasons but to live with אמונה (emunah, faith), בטחון (bitachon, trust), and תשובה (teshuvah, return). Faith that nothing escapes His providence. Trust that all unfolds as part of His greater plan. And return — to refine ourselves, to draw closer to Him, and to respond to every event, both bitter and sweet, with humility and responsibility.


Everything — from the smallest stub of a toe to the grandest turning of history — is allowed and directed only because G-D wills it. And once we truly accept this, we stop living as victims of chaos and begin to live as partners in His unfolding plan.


Mashal (משל / Parable)

A child once walked with his father through a crowded marketplace. Suddenly, the child stubbed his toe on a stone and began to cry. “Why did you not move the stone out of my way?” he asked. The father smiled gently and said, “My son, I placed the stone there so you would learn to watch your steps. Better to stumble on a stone in the market than to fall upon a cliff in the mountains.”


So too with us. We do not always see the purpose of the “stones” placed in our path — whether a stubbed toe or a moment of great trial — but we trust that our Father in Heaven places them with wisdom. Some stones teach caution, others redirect us, and still others protect us from greater danger. None are random. All are part of His guiding hand.


Reflection

When we accept that even the smallest detail of our lives is held within G-D’s will, we gain strength to endure both joy and hardship with clarity. What feels random is not random; what feels chaotic is not without order. To live with this awareness is to walk with serenity, for nothing — not the hand of an assassin, not the strike of misfortune, not even the stub of a toe — escapes His providence. Our calling is to respond not with despair, but with faith, trust, and return.


יהי רצון מלפניך ה אלוהינו ואלוהי אבותינו, שתפתח את עינינו לראות את ידך בכל דרכי חיינו. תן לנו אמונה לקבל את מה שאתה גוזר, בטחון לדעת שכל מה שאתה עושה הוא לטובה, ותשובה לשוב אליך בכל מעשינו. חזק את ליבנו שלא ניפול בבלבול או בהסתר פנים, אלא נעמוד תמיד באחדותך ובמלכותך.


May it be Your will, L-RD our G-D and G-D of our fathers, to open our eyes to see Your hand in every path of our lives. Grant us faith to accept what You decree, trust to know that all You do is for the good, and the strength to return to You in all our actions. Strengthen our hearts that we not falter in confusion or in concealment, but always stand firm in Your unity and in Your kingship.
