Mufti Noor Ahmed Takes Charge of Afghanistan Embassy in India

Mufti Noor Ahmad takes over as the charge d’Affaires at the Embassy of Afghanistan.
Mufti is a senior member of the Taliban and served as Director General of the First Political Department in the Foreign Ministry of Afghanistan. He was part of the delegation of the Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi, who visited India in October 2025.
During his official tour, he also visited Darul Uloom Deoband Madrasa. During the visit, an agreement was signed between Minister of External Affairs S. Jaishankar and Muttaqi, under which India agreed to accept diplomats appointed by the Islamic Emirates for the Afghanistan Embassy.
Mumbai and Hyderabad consulates of Afghanistan are already being run by diplomats appointed by the Taliban. India and Afghanistan have seen a gradual improvement in bilateral engagement. Several high-level delegations from Afghanistan visited India to boost cooperation in trade, energy, and regional connectivity projects.
The new charge d’Affaires arrived in Delhi and visited the Jama Masjid.
