Hebrew Synagogue has reaffirmed its ongoing commitment to safeguarding and supporting the Jewish Community with the continued development of Magen Kehilati, an initiative dedicated to the practical care and wellbeing of individuals and families in times of need.
Magen Kehilati strengthens the resilience of the Jewish Community by coordinating volunteer support, providing crisis assistance, and ensuring that no member of the Community is left alone, unseen, or unsupported.
While Shomrim Scotland continues to focus on community security and incident response, Magen Kehilati serves a complementary role in the wider communal ecosystem. Its emphasis is on welfare, support, and care—addressing real-world challenges faced by members of the Community, from moments of crisis to ongoing social, domestic, or personal vulnerabilities.
Magen Kehilati focuses on three core responsibilities:
Crisis Support: offering practical help for members of the Community during emergencies—whether personal, financial, medical, or domestic.
Welfare and Assistance: checking in on vulnerable individuals, coordinating volunteer support, and ensuring that those in need receive help quickly and discreetly.
Safety and Safeguarding: providing welfare guidance, identifying signs of risk, and stepping in when someone may require protection, intervention, or support.
The initiative works closely with synagogues, schools, community organisations, and families to maintain an environment of dignity, compassion, and responsibility. Its mission is simple and deeply rooted in Jewish values: the Community looks after its own.
All services provided by Magen Kehilati are offered free of charge. Hebrew Synagogue encourages participation from volunteers, professionals, and members of the Community willing to contribute time, care, or expertise. By working together, the Community strengthens its welfare network and builds a system of support that enhances the wellbeing of every individual.
