Government Issued Guidelines for Media Channels' Coverage of Sensitive Issues

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting advises media channels to refrain from showing live coverage of defense operations and the movement of security forces in the interest of national security.

No real-time coverage, dissemination of visuals, or reporting based on source-based information related to defense operations or movement should be undertaken. Premature disclosure of sensitive information may inadvertently assist hostile elements and endanger the effectiveness of the operation and personnel safety.

Past incidents have underscored the importance of responsible reporting during events such as the Kargil War, the Mumbai terror attack (26/11), and the Kandhar hijacking, Unrestricted coverage has had unintended adverse consequences on national interest.

Such a telecast violates the Cable Television Network Amendment Rules 2021 and is liable for action thereunder.
