“As Though It Were Hidden”: The Abuse of Jeremiah 31:31 by the Agents of Idolatry

“As Though It Were Hidden”: The Abuse of Jeremiah 31:31 by the Agents of Idolatry

Lately, my attention has been drawn to a disturbing trend circulating across social media platforms—short video reels featuring individuals who claim to be Jewish, speaking with a feigned tone of spiritual epiphany, as they reference ירמיהו (Yirmeyahu) 31:31 as though it were some newly unearthed scroll. These individuals—often acting, coached, or incentivised—proclaim, “Had I known about this verse... I would have converted long ago...” followed by some veiled (or not-so-veiled) reference to foreign beliefs, which I will simply and accurately refer to as idolatry, for that is what it is.

Let us be clear: ירמיהו 31:31 is not a hidden prophecy. It is not a suppressed teaching. It has been part of our תנ״ך (Tanakh – Hebrew Bible) for millennia, known, studied, and explained by our sages from חז״ל (Ḥazal – our sages of blessed memory) through the גאונים (Geonim), the רשונים (Rishonim), and the אחרונים (Aḥaronim). It is referenced in תלמוד (Talmud), explained in הלכה (Halakhah), and illuminated by both קבלה (Kabbalah) and חסידות (Ḥasidut). To suggest that this verse has been kept from Jews is nothing short of a lie crafted by idolaters to confuse those Jews who have not taken the opportunity to educate themselves — despite the fact that, as Moshe Rabbeinu declared and as the Tanya emphatically teaches, the Torah is 'very near to you' and entirely within reach of every Jew.

The Verse in Question

"Behold, days are coming, says the L-RD, when I will make a new covenant with the House of Yisrael and with the House of Yehudah."

To the unlearned, this may seem to indicate that something is being replaced. But that is not what the verse says, and it is not what the following verses reveal.

“I will place My Torah within them and upon their hearts I will write it.”

This is not a new religion. It is not a new law. It is the same תורה (Torah – Divine teaching), renewed in its depth, internalised more completely by a people who will one day be fully devoted to G-D from within.

The Deception of the Nations

These videos are not accidental. They are carefully engineered propaganda produced by groups whose explicit mission is to draw Jews away from the path of G-D and into the snares of foreign worship. It is not a new phenomenon. From the moment the nations heard the words:

נעשה ונשמע

“We will do and we will hear” – at הר סיני (Har Sinai – Mount Sinai), they have schemed to undo the covenant we made with the Creator.

This campaign is just the latest chapter in their long history of deception. As it is written:

תהלים 83:5 –אמרו לכו ונכחידם מגוי ולא יזכר שם ישראל עוד

“They have said, Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation; that the name of Yisrael be remembered no more.”

That same intention is at work now in these manipulative videos that pretend to be made by “Jews discovering the truth,” but in fact are scripted by those who hope to erase the truth of the Torah, who may or may not be Jewish.

The Eternal Torah

The claim that the Torah has been replaced by a “new covenant” is utterly false. The Rambam makes this clear in (Hilkhot Yesodei HaTorah) 9:1:

“This Torah will never be changed, and no prophet has permission to introduce anything new.”

The so-called “new covenant” is nothing but a renewed commitment to the same Torah, as explained by רש״י (Rashi) and רד״ק (Radak). The “newness” lies in its acceptance—not in its content.

The Holy Zohar on the Future Covenant

The הזוהר הקדוש (HaZohar HaKadosh – Holy Zohar) explains (Volume 3, 124b) that in the days of המשיח (HaMashiaḥ – the Messiah), the סוד (sod – hidden meaning) of the Torah will be revealed to all:

בההוא זמנא אורייתא עתיקא תתגלי

“In that time, the ancient Torah will be revealed.”

Not a different Torah, chas vechalilah (חס וחלילה / G-D forbid), but the ancient Torah—fully understood.

Tanya and the Depth of Torah in the Heart

In איגרת הקדש כט (Iggeret HaKodesh 29), the אדמו״ר הזקן (Admor HaZaken – the Alter Rebbe) explains that every mitzvah draws down the אור אין סוף (Or Ein Sof – Infinite Light of G-D). In our time, this light is hidden. But in the future, this very same mitzvah-light will be manifest and revealed, and this is what the prophet means by “a new covenant”—not different, but completely revealed and fully integrated.

Conclusion: Not New—Just Revealed

These reels, which feign innocent spiritual discovery, are nothing more than weapons in the war against Jewish continuity. They are part of a sophisticated psychological operation designed to cast doubt on the eternal truth of Torah. And we must treat them as such.

To our Jewish brothers and sisters: do not be confused by smooth-talking actors reading from scripts. Instead, open a ספר (sefer – holy book). Learn Torah. And you will see what the nations cannot: that תורת משה אמת – the Torah of Moshe is truth – and היא לא תשתנה לעולם ועד – it shall never be changed.
